Luža Square

Luža square is a busy and the center of Dubrovnik at the end of Placa Stradun. Most attractions are located here and i have some photos of those sights to see. It is also a meeting place because of the landmarks that is easy to find.

When we were approaching at the end of the stradun, I suddenly stopped and resting in front of the Church of St. Blaise. The Church of St. Blaise is an 18th century baroque church on Luža Square. Tourists stop here resting and setting on the staircase in front the church. St. Blaise is a patron saint of the city of Dubrovnik and formerly the protector of the independent Republic of Ragusa.

In front of the Church of St. Blaise, stands a column carved in image of Orlando (or Roland), a legendary knight holding a sword in his hand. Orlando's Column is a symbol of the city's freedom.

I looked up watching the tall and clock tower as it chimed. They say the clock tower chimes  at noon everyday. It is considered as the magnificent landmark of the Old town in Dubrovnik. You should come earlier at the end of Stradun so you will never miss the opportunity to listen to the chimes. It is better to wait than never.

As we were walking around the Luža Square, a statue of Marin Držić on the side caught our attention. Marin Držić, who was born in Dubrovnik, is considered the finest Croatian Renaissance playwright and prose writer. They say rubbing his nose brings good luck. That's why i noticed at the moment I rubbed his nose it looks well-polished and smooth because of million of hands have touched into it.
